As Libyans
celebrate the first freedom we have had in 42 years, we also
extend a very warm welcome to the rest of the world to enjoy,
with us, the welcoming spirit of the New Libya... and the
glories of our ancient past.
For six months in 2011, Libyan men and women demonstrated to the
world their immense courage, spirit and unity in the face of
horrific adversity.
Libyans will now enjoy freedom,
justice and an absence of the daily fear that controlled us for
four decades. We look forward to the benefits of an education
system that will exist to better our children's futures and to a
society where we no longer have to leave the country for
reliable health care. For the first time, our country's great
wealth will be used to improve its citizens' lives rather than
to terrorize them.
We will cherish
those basic freedoms that many around the world might take for
granted... something which we will never do.
For the first time in 42 years, we
feel that we can be proud members of the international
community.
The cost in lives has been very
high, but the thousands who gave their lives believed absolutely
in a free Libya for their children and for future generations.
Green Square in Tripoli has reverted to its original name at
last, Martyrs Square, and tributes and memorials to these
freedom fighters are being created across the country.
We can never
thank enough those around the world who helped us through this
terrible and momentous time in our history.
Our country's treasures: the
ancient Roman & Greek cities; the beautiful old Berber
civilization, the spectacular beauty of the Sahara -- and most
importantly the warm and welcoming spirit of the Libyan people
-- are still here, waiting for you.
Please visit. We welcome you to
our New Libya, and we would be very happy
to help you discover it.
